Herman Ortiz, 72, of Questa, NM passed away with family by his side at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Santa Fe on January 4, 2017. Born on April 18, 1944 this compassionate, generous, and funny man loved life and lived it to the fullest. Although his life was tainted by the struggle of illness, he managed to be present for those he loved and enjoyed the company of many friends. He loved music, dancing, and cooking. Two of his greatest accomplishments were helping his mother manage Louie’s Cafe, where he was known for his famous “Louie Burger” and fries, and caring for her until her death in 2014. He missed those who passed before him and grieved for those he left behind. He is preceded in death by his parents Luis and Eufelia, and siblings Dorothy and Marcos. Herman is survived by his brothers, Ivan (Gloria), Jake (Dolores), Michael, and his sister-friend Ruby. While he had many nieces and nephews whom he loved and cared for, his “hita” Antonia (Joshua), “hito” Miguel (Monique) and their children, CJ, Michael, and Benito were especially near and dear to his heart. In addition to family and friends, he left behind his beloved rescue cat, Dirty Sally, and dogs Bruno, Sugar, Juno, and Veeola. The time of his passing was very difficult for him and those who loved him and he will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Rosary was recited on January 10, 2017. Funeral mass was held on January 11, 2017. Both were held at St. Anthony’s Church with interment following at the Los Ojitos Family Cemetery.
