Gilbert H. Martinez, Sr. age 78, of Santa Fe, NM.  Born on July 11, 1947, passed away on June 18, 2026. Born in Santa Fe, NM Gilbert was son of Willie Chavez Martinez and Helen Rodriguez Martinez.  Willie passed away May 9, 1994, Helen passed away November 9, 2001.  Gilbert is survived by his loving wife Margie Garcia Martinez, his loving eldest son Gilbert (Bert) Henry Martinez and his daughter-in-law Elaine (Candy) Martinez and grandsons Ezekiel (Zeke) Martinez, wife Kaitlin and great granddaughter Riley, Jirell Martinez, wife Sarah and great grandchildren Greyson and Sophie, Gilbert's youngest loving son Gregory William Martinez passed away on October 3, 2009, at age 38.  Gilbert is also survived by his granddaughter Chrystal L. Martinez and great grandchildren Jose Angelo Medina, Xavier Medina and Isabella Merdina and Noah and Desmond, his brother Ernesto C. Martinez, sister-in-law Patricia Martinez preceded him in death.  She passed away in April of 2003. Gilbert is also survived by nieces Leanne Martinez, Kelly Durbin and nephew Jay Martinez. 

Gilbert began his working career as an Air Force Airman.  He joined the Air Force at the age of 19 in May of 1966.  He went to basic training in Amarillo, TX.  He was assigned to the NORAD Headquarters in Topsham, ME.  Margie and Gilbert were married on September 3,1966 in Santa Fe, NM.  The traveled 2,255 miles to

In 1970 Gilbert was able to get a job working for civil engineer Charles F. Horne Associated.  He worked for the civil engineer eight and a half years.  In March 1979 he went to work for a structural engineer Robert D. Krause.  He worked there until July 1988.  Gilbert went to work for a civil engineer that same month in Los Alamos, NM.  He worked for that company for six months.  He then worked at the New Mexico Transportation Department.  He worked there for four years.  He worked at the NM Environment Department.  He ended his workdays after four years, retired in 1997.

In September 2001 Margie and Gilbert sold their home and went to live in MO.  They lived in a farm type collective.  In 2002 they went to live in Calhoun, GA.  In 2019 they sold their home and moved back to Santa Fe.

It was a long and fruitful journey for Gilbert.  Many memories abound in our lives.  Gilbert went on several spiritual journeys.  Some interesting and fruitful.
