George J. Tapia, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and Navy veteran, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 27, 2025, at the age of 80, surrounded by family in his beloved Santa Fe, NM. Born on May 29, 1945, in Santa Fe, George lived a life rich in love, commitment, and community service.
George was a proud Plumber by trade, having owned his own business, Coyote Plumbing and Heating. He also dedicated 25 years of his career as a Maintenance Inspector at St. Vincent's Hospital. His commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family and friends. A Navy veteran who served in the Vietnam era aboard the refrigeration ship USS Arcturus (AF52), George earned his Vietnam Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal, instilling a profound sense of pride in serving his country.
George's personality shone brightly, making him a cherished figure to all who knew him. He was often described as the family favorite, never met a stranger, and garnered friendships wherever he went. His infectious smile could light up any room, bringing joy to those around him. George was an awesome husband to Jessie, his only wife, and a loving father to his three sons: Maximillian Alfredo, Alexander and his wife Emilia, and Jason and his wife Marissa. He took great pride in not only teaching them everything he knew but also enjoying countless adventures together.
His love extended generously to his grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. He cherished every moment spent with Kimberly and her husband Adam, Mateo, Juliana, Amaya, Atalia, Mila, Lexzander, as well as his great-grandchildren, Ivory and Forrest. George's heart swelled with pride at the accomplishments of his family, finding joy in their successes and happiness.
An avid gardener, George took great pleasure in nurturing his dahlias and squash, a reflection of his love for the outdoors. He engaged in numerous hobbies that brought him joy, including fishing, hunting, and spending quality time with Jessie. George had a special fondness for children, particularly during Halloween, and loved to fix things, expressing his generous spirit through acts of kindness and creativity.
Along with his wife, sons, and grandchildren, George is survived by his brothers Joe and his wife Nancy, Jerry and his wife Laurie, John and his wife Charlene, and sisters Mary Anne, Eva and her husband Tom, Jane and her husband Will, and Lisa. He will be dearly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents Max and Gennelle, his baby brother Patrick, and his in-laws Alfredo and Rose Dominguez. George held a deep faith, often found praying the Rosary and loving his church, which provided him with strength and community throughout his life.
Family and friends are invited to partake in the memorial services, beginning with a Rosary on November 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30 AM at San Isidro Parish & San Jose Mission in Santa Fe, NM. George will then be laid to rest at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 PM.
