George "Sticky" Ortiz

George “Sticky” Ortiz was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on January 4, 1951. He passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully on August 18, 2025 with his sisters, Kathy and Angela, by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents George A Ortiz, Violet M. Ortiz, and wife Sherley Gonzales-Ortiz.

George was a quiet and humble man who loved his family and friends whole-heartedly. His small acts of kindness were abundant through the years, leaving memories that will live on with those who loved him. He enjoyed giving gifts, consisting of his photography, books, hot wheels and any small token, to show he was thinking of them. He had a compassionate heart for children and elderly. He enjoyed sharing stories of his travels and readings. His shy laughter was infectious as he told these stories to his nieces and nephews, friends and family.

George dedicated his life to his music, photography, and reading books. He was an extraordinary musician, playing professionally in many bands throughout the years. He played guitar, piano, drums and many other instruments. His love of music brought him joy and peace; and that joy moved on to those who listened. He was a talented writer of music and lyrics.

George also was a master at photography. He attended New Mexico Highlands University where he completed photography classes. He found beauty all around and was able to capture it with his camera. Family and friends always found him with his camera in his hand, and knew there would be many pictures taken of them during their visit. He left behind many photos of his family, friends, travels, animals, flowers and other objects that caught his eye. These photos will live on forever.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
