On Sunday, June 7, 2026, George Robert Margevicius, loving son, brother, and partner, passed away at the age of 26 after a brave and difficult fight against illness.
George was born in Los Alamos, NM, on July 14, 1999, to parents Kristen and Robert Margevicius. He grew up in Los Alamos, spending a lot of time outdoors, participating in local boy scouts, nature summer camps, and developed a strong connection to the natural world at a young age. He was inquisitive and open-minded, leading him to become an avid bird watcher, to canoe across Minnesota lakes with his boy scout troop, and to photograph Iceland for a summer.
His family also spent four years of his childhood in Falls Church, VA, allowing George the opportunity to spend more time with extended family. His maternal grandparents, Bernice and Wesley Jockisch, reside in Maryland, and his extensive paternal extended family reside predominantly in Cleveland, OH, both of which were a shorter drive from Virginia than New Mexico. George loved playing chess with his grandfather, exploring with his grandmother, and participating in many family events in Cleveland.
George attended Los Alamos Middle School and High School, during which he became a talented tennis player, rising to the varsity team in eighth grade and competing in state championship finals throughout high school. He also completed his boy scout journey earning the Arrow of Light and Eagle Scout ranks. He graduated in 2017.
After high school, George went to Montana State University and then transferred to Colorado State University at Fort Collins. In Colorado, he met his partner, Ashton Mott Severt, who was attending University of Northern Colorado. In 2024, the two of them moved to Los Alamos. Their relationship has been full of devotion and kindness, laughter and games, and commitment.
Back in Los Alamos, George valued time spent with his parents and his sisters, Kate and Madeline, and showed a true love for family. He was compassionate, giving, and always unapologetically himself.
Our cherished George was preceded in death by his grandparents Margarete and Juozas Margevicius. He is survived by his mother, Kristen, father, Robert, his sisters, Madeline and Kate, his partner, Ashton, his grandparents Bernice and Wesley, and his numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A funeral service for George will take place on Wednesday, June 24, at 10 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos, NM. A memorial service will be held in Cleveland, Ohio at a later date.
In honor of George, we invite you to consider supporting the organizations that George cared deeply for: Scouting America, animal rescue organizations, and nature conservation. Also please enjoy spending time outside marveling in the created world around us.
