Gabriel J. Ortiz, born on May 15, 1977, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away on June 6, 2025. Gabriel dedicated many years of his life to serving as a crematory technician and funeral director at Rivera Funeral Home, where he provided comfort and support to families in their times of need. His career was not just a job; it was a calling, reflecting his deep compassion and commitment to helping others navigate their grief.
A man of many talents, Gabriel was known for his generous spirit. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his own back or share half his meal—actions that underscored his character and heart of gold. He was always there to lend a hand, ensuring that no one went without, fostering a sense of community and belonging among those fortunate enough to know him.
Gabriel is survived by his loving parents, Chris and Elena Ortiz, as well as his cherished children, Gabie and Emitt Ortiz. He leaves behind a close-knit family, with brothers Joe, Ben, and Nick Ortiz, and sister Lillian Ortiz who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and generosity. In addition to his immediate family, Gabriel is surrounded by countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, all of whom were touched by his life and will miss him deeply.
Gabriel is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Joe (Antonia) Dean and Joe (Carmen) Ortiz, as well as cousins Nicole, Tom, Bernice, and Darlene and her two sons, James and Roberta, and is remembered by a multitude of family members and friends including Marcy Ortiz, Angie Ortiz, Tim Benavidez, Eddie Ortiz, Gilbert Ortiz, Denise Viscarra, and Rudy Dean.
Gabriel's life was a testament to the power of kindness and generosity. He made an indelible mark on the hearts of many, leaving behind memories that will be cherished forever. As we remember him, we celebrate the love and warmth he shared, a legacy that will undoubtedly live on through the lives he touched.
Services for Gabriel will be on June 23, 2025, at Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz, NM, with a Rosary at 10:30am and a Mass to follow.
