Gabina Madrid, our cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Canjilon, New Mexico, she carried her hometown in her heart throughout her 101 years of life.

Gabina was known for her warm, generous spirit. She treasured her family above all. Trips to Canjilon, picking piñon, and quiet moments under the oak tree are memories her loved ones hold dear. She touched countless lives simply by being welcoming, strong, and loving.

She was deeply loved by all who knew her. People gravitated to her and she left a lasting impression on her community and on every life she touched. She was welcoming and kind to everyone, and her presence brought comfort, joy, and belonging.

She is survived by her daughters, Genevieve Montaño (Rick) and Vangie Marquez (Max); her grandchildren, Darlyn Garcia (Melvin), Nick Montaño Jr. (Monica), Danny Montaño (Kristi), Jennie Angel Montaño, Max Marquez Jr. (Andrea), James Marquez (Margo), Christina Galvez (Joseph), and Mona Paiz (Phillip); her brother, Sergio Rivera (Dorothy), and great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, along with a multitude of extended family members and cherished friends who all held a special place in her heart. The love she poured into her family will continue to live on through each of them.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Sinforosa Rivera, her father, Jose Y. Rivera, her husband, Diego Madrid, her daughter, Gaby Madrid, her brothers Joe Rivera, Perfecto Rivera, Isidro Rivera, Leo Rivera, and Juan Rivera, her sisters, Bertha Rivera; Sinfer Gomez, and Reyes Manzanarez, her son-in-law, Nick Montaño, and her great-grandson Christopher Joseph Marquez,

Services will be held on September 24, 2026, at San Juan Nepomuceno Mission, 10 Co Rd 295, Canjilon, New Mexico 87515, with a viewing from 9:00a.m. to 10:00a.m., followed by the Rosary at 10:00a.m., and Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Canjilon Cemetery, located at 24 Co Rd 300, Canjilon, New Mexico 87515.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Amanda Garcia, Aaron Montaño, Ryan Montaño, Christobal Urioste, Daniel Montaño, and Malachi Paiz.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Zachary Paiz, Lucas Rivera, Marcos Rivera, Victor Marquez, Johnathan Thompson, David Rivera, and Andrew Chavez.

Gabina leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, nourishing, and love. She will be remembered with deep affection and missed beyond measure.
