Frank Shuck

Frank Shuck, age 80, died surrounded by his family. He was born in Glasgow, Montana to Warren J. Shuck, an engineer building the Fort Peck Dam, and Elizabeth C. Phillips Shuck. On completion of the dam the family moved to Clairton, PA, where Frank grew up and graduated valedictorian from Clairton High School. While in school at Carnegie Tech, he married Roberta Anne Sproul, his high school sweetheart. Upon earning his doctorate in chemical engineering, he taught at Iowa State University, then served as a 2nd Lt. in the Army Corps of Engineers for two years and oversaw the construction of the grave site for President John F. Kennedy. He returned to Iowa State where he taught for 20 years. For the next seven years Frank worked as the operative engineer at Kemin, an animal feed company in Des Moines, IA. Preferring to teach, he was a chemical engineering professor at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA for the next ten years. The Shuck family attended seminars annually at Ghost Ranch near Abiquiu, NM from the mid 1960’s. There he met Jane Hanna and they married in 1991. After his retirement, the couple became permanent residents of Santa Fe. He volunteered for several years at the MEG Senior Center, Vista Grande Library, Ghost Ranch and the S.F. Interfaith Shelter. Frank is survived by his wife Jane Hanna, his brother David Shuck (Anna), son Robert Shuck and daughter Sue Zeimet (Paul), granddaughters Katie and Samantha Zeimet, stepchildren Jane O. Carlson (Tom), Ann O. Bucheli (Fausto), and John Oseid, plus nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers Richard Shuck and Robert Shuck. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016, 11:00AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Fe. A luncheon will follow after the Memorial Services for family and friends. Burial will be taking place at the Campo Santo, Ghost Ranch where Frank and Jane first met.
