Frank Gabaldon, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and man of deep faith, was born on January 29, 1940. He was born to eternal life on September 14, 2026, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
Frank shared 53 years of marriage with his loving wife, Sonia Gabaldon. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, family, and devotion to one another. Their life together was a beautiful testament to the gift of marriage and the strength that comes from walking through life side by side.
Frank lived his life with a deep love for God and an even deeper love for his family. His faith was not simply something he professed, but something he tried to live each day through his love, humility, kindness, and care for others. He understood the importance of family and treasured the time he shared with those he loved.
Frank cherished the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi and the faith community that had become such an important part of his life. The Cathedral was more than a place of worship to him; it was his spiritual home and a place where he experienced the presence of God, community, and belonging.
His love for the Church was expressed through his ministry and service. Frank lovingly served the Cathedral community as an Altar Server, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and through the Funeral Ministry. He also was a lifetime member of the Caballeros de Vargas, Knight of Columbus and served as the Assistant Mayordomo of La Cofradia de La Conquistadora. He found great joy in serving others, especially in moments of prayer, celebration, and sorrow. Through these ministries, Frank quietly lived out his baptismal call and offered his time and presence to his parish family.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Rita and Max Gabaldon, and his brother, Manuel Gabaldon.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sonia Gabaldon; his daughter, Yolanda Gabaldon Fuentes, and her husband, Tom Fuentes; his daughter, Michelle Gabaldon; his son, Gabriel Gabaldon; and his beloved granddaughter, Candace Fuentes.
He is also survived by his sister, Rose Sandoval (late husband Danny), and his nieces, Danette and her husband, David; Jennifer and her husband, Edgar; nephew Ray and partner Matt and nephew Damian. Frank treasured his family and the love and bonds they shared throughout the years.
Frank was also blessed by many people who became part of his family including George Baros, Cristella Roybal, Dc. Joe & Terry Garcia, Maria Teresa Garcia, Dolores Martinez, Thomasluke Florez-Mansi, Estevan Florez-Mansi, Paul Valdez, Andrew Cordova, Brandon Baldonado, and Louie Espinosa. Their friendship, love, and presence brought great joy to Frank’s life, and they will carry with them the memories of the special bond they shared with him.
Frank was a man who found joy in the simple blessings of life—his wife, his family, his faith, and the people God placed along his journey. He was humble and kind, and his presence made others feel welcome. His smile, his gentle spirit, and his willingness to serve will be remembered by the many people whose lives he touched.
It is especially fitting that Frank entered eternal life on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, when the Church celebrates the Cross of Christ as a sign of God’s enduring love and the promise of new life. Frank lived his earthly life rooted in that faith, and we now entrust him to the loving mercy of God, confident in the promise of the Resurrection.
