Flora Gallegos

Our beloved mother, Flora Gallegos, was called home by our Lord Jesus Christ, surrounded by her loving family, on February 1, 2026.

A devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend. Flora lived a life rooted in compassion and strength with genuine kindness, and above all, she valued her family and helped anyone in need.

Flora was a dedicated teacher, completing her B.A. degree while raising her family. She taught for many years in the communities of Costilla, Cerro, and Questa. Her ability to make learning fun and meaningful left a lasting impact on her students.

Flora was a devout Catholic and a member of the Carmelite Society.

Flora is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Adolph Gallegos Jr.; parents, Frank Barela Sr. and Vincentita (Bessie) Sanchez-Barela; brother, Frank Barela Jr.; and grandson, Calvin Velasquez.

Flora is survived by her son, Adolph Gallegos III; daughters Pat (Robert), Barbara (John), Isabel (Leo), Sandra (Al), and Veronica; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters Agatha Arellano and Betty Keil; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a large extended family, including many Godchildren.

A rosary will be recited on February 15, 2026 at 6PM at Rivera Family Funeral Home in Taos, NM.  

Funeral Mass will be held on February 16, 2026 at 10AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Costilla, NM. 

Burial will take place following the Mass at Santo Niño Cemetery in Amalia, NM.
