In Loving Memory of Fillie Gallegos
Our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, Fillie Gallegos, peacefully entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at the age of 98, in the comfort of her Santa Fe home.
Born on February 26, 1927, in El Rancho, New Mexico, to Fermin Martinez and Petronila Roybal Martinez, Fillie was the youngest of seven children. Her early years were spent on the family farm before the family moved to Santa Fe when she was a child.
Fillie graduated from Santa Fe High School and continued her education at business college, specializing in data entry. She went on to work for the State of New Mexico Corporation Commission, where she faithfully served for 26 years before retiring.
She devoted her life to God and her family, living out her Catholic faith with joyful commitment. Whether in church, around the kitchen table, or in the company of friends, Fillie stood out—not just for her beauty, but for the kindness, warmth, and grace that emanated from her. For those closest to her, she will be remembered for her wide, radiant smile that could light up a room and her unmistakable red hair—signature traits that reflected her vibrant spirit and kind personality. She also had an extraordinary gift of opening her heart and home, making everyone feel welcome and loved. Her genuine gift of hospitality was a reflection of her unwavering devotion to her faith, leaving a lasting imprint on all who knew her.
Fillie was a lifelong member of The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, where she joyfully sang in the Sunday 10:00 a.m. choir for many years. Since 1976, she was also a devoted member of the Sagrada Familia de San Jose and a scheduled adorer at the Blessed Sacrament until illness prevented her from continuing.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tony and youngest son, Mario Gallegos; her parents, Fermin and Petronila Martinez; her brothers, Fidel, Silverio, and Pvt. Sigfredo Martinez; and her sisters, Mildred Burke, Lydia Romero, and Emelene Sandoval. Fillie is survived by her loving children: Angelo (Marieann), Orlando (Chana), Jerry (Lori), and Roy (Claudine Miller); grandchildren: Allison (Allie), Angelo Jr., Orlando, Jr. (Barbara), and Monica Quintana; cherished great-grandchildren: Zoe and Liliana Gallegos, Samantha Moreno and Michaela Quintana; two great, great grandchildren, Davina and Zander Moreno.
The family would like to give a special mention to Judy Espinosa, Fillie’s devoted niece, who lovingly and compassionately cared for her throughout her final seasons of life. Judy’s gentle and faithful service reflected the heart of Galatians 5:13 — “Through love, serve one another.”
