Emma Padilla

Emma Padilla, 84, died on August 1st at her assisted living home in Albuquerque NM surrounded by her family. She will be remembered as a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother whose passion for family brought joy to everyone around her.

Emma was born on July 17, 1942 to Jose & Molly Briones in Carlsbad NM. She graduated high school as a “Cavegirl” in 1960. Emma then left Carlsbad to live with her sister Virginia in the big town of Santa Fe where she began her career as a Beautician. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Richard. They were married on May 29, 1970 and shared 48 wonderful years together. They raised 2 children, Melissa & Rick. In the 80’s she and her husband Buzzy opened a small business in Santa Fe called “Holiday Liquor and Lounge”. They owned the business for many years with a huge following from the community and northern NM. As her kids began college Emma began teaching at Manderfield HeadStart until she retired in the early 2000’s.

Where Emma truly shined brightest was in her role she treasured most, Grandmother. Whether it be painting, cooking, sewing, or gardening, her grandchildren were always right beside her, learning from her patient hands and her gentle, loving heart. You could always find her at one of the many sporting events her grandchildren participated in. Another one of her passions was making Santa’s for Christmas. If you were lucky enough, you might have one on your shelf.

Emma is preceded in death by her husband Richard, parents Jose & Molly Briones, sister Virginia and her brother Frank. She is survived by her daughter Melissa, her son Rick & wife Melissa, her grandchildren Anthony, Molly, Luke, Matthew, Michael & Katelyn, great-granddaughter Liliana and many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Services will be held on Wednesday August 19, 2026 at St. Anne’s Parish. Rosary at 9:00am, Mass at 10:00am. Burial to follow at Rivera Family Funeral Home.

The family wishes to extend their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregivers, Maria Iglesias and Erin Mintle, and to the entire staff at Serenity Home Assisted Living. The compassion, dignity, and tenderness with which they cared for Emma in her final chapter is something they will carry in their hearts forever. Thank you!
