Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Cordova drew her last breath and went home to be with the Lord on September 9, 2026. She was surrounded by many who loved her as she crossed to her heavenly life.
Betty was born in Pueblo, CO on June 29, 1944 and was the youngest child of Domingo Duran and Clorinda Herrera Duran. Betty grew up in Pueblo in the care of her dad and many sisters after losing her mother at a young age. Her sisters and brother were a very important part of Betty’s life and she loved them dearly.
Betty attended East High School and was a member of St. Leander Parish. She married Joseph Cordova, also of Pueblo, at St. Leander on October 17, 1961 and together they raised their three children in Pueblo. Betty was widowed in 2019 after lovingly caring for Joseph in his long and difficult battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Leo J. Duran; and sisters Henrietta Vigil, Victoria Roldan, Frieda Martinez and Bertha Cordova. With great sadness, she was also preceded in death by her grandchildren Alec Bilyeu-Cordova and Justice Deeter. She is survived by sisters Ercilia Luna of Security, Bernice Charlotte (William) Lucero of Arvada, and Mary (Alfonso) Garcia of Pueblo. Left behind to treasure her memory and her love are her children Joseph Michael (Sue) Cordova of Lakeside, CA; David Cordova of Golondrinas, NM; Cristina Cordova (Arturo) of Golondrinas, NM; grandchildren David (Deidra) Cordova, Isabella Cordova-Marlow, Joaquin Cordova-Marlow all of New Mexico, Niccole Cordova of Texas; and great grand-children Jace, Teagan, Camryn, Mia and Ava.
Betty lived a life not tied to one place or one job. Together she and Joseph shared a life that enabled them to live many places and experience many things. They made a home not only in Pueblo but also in Nebraska, Texas, Wyoming, Belgium, Germany and finally New Mexico. She stood and worked by Joe’s side as he fulfilled his lifelong dream of returning to his beloved ancestral home in New Mexico. It was not a task for a soft woman to help him fulfill this dream because together they built their final home together from the ground up under challenging conditions. She was a strong woman who did without many comforts as they worked side by side to make their home in rural New Mexico. In addition to her strength, Betty was also known to be a kind and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. Betty loved to talk and she loved people.
She had a way of making people feel comfortable and joyful around her. She loved having friends and family in her home to celebrate many holidays and milestones. Many have fond memories of huge holiday gatherings and family celebrations that were shared by both Betty and Joe’s families in the home he built for her in Pueblo. Her many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly, all have very special memories of Aunt Betty.
For the many who loved Betty, the memory of her love, joy and kindness will live on with them. A Rosary and Mass will be held on Friday, 6 November 2026 at St. Leander Catholic Parish. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. and Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.
