Edward Lewis Duran

Edward L. Duran, born on May 17, 1923 joined his beautiful wife of 62 years, Beatrice, on December 14, 2025 in the Glory of Heaven. He was one of four children born to Matias and Jesusita Duran.

Eddie grew up in Santa Fe and moved to Seattle, Washington at the age of 15 to work for Boeing aircraft where he earned his Machinist Apprenticeship. While in Seattle, he was also a welder for the naval shipyards until such time he was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served in World War II and the Korean War. Upon his return, he met the love of his life while working at Capital Machine Shop. He and Beatrice were married in 1950 and had six children. They shared the most beautiful love story until her passing in 2012. He was employed at Los Alamos National Laboratory for 36 years. Prior to that, he worked at many other jobs each tapping into his genius talents. He had many accomplishments over his lifetime, but the one he was most proud of was his family. Eddie was a humble man. He was kind, a mechanical genius, master of everything and a great cook. His door was always open and he stood ready to flip pancakes, make tortillas, serve up beans and green chili stew and had a refrigerator full of beverages for guests. He loved fiercely, was a hero to everyone he met and a protector of all. Everything he did was completed with patience and perfection. The casino was his happy place. He was the human we all aspire to be.

He is survived by his children. Cathy (Sam) Garcia, Patti (Ralph) Muxlow, Phillip (Vicki) Duran, Diana Duran (Joe Lujan), Loretta (David) Apel, and Nanette Vela. He had 19 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 5 great, great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Burial will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on January 30, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the upper shelter.
