Edmundo Mumo Gilbert Martinez, was called to heaven by our Father on Thursday October 8, 2015. He was born in Ranchos De Taos, NM. Edmundo was a beloved husband, father, brother, son, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Katherine, and his daughters Dina Ruybal and her husband J.D., Margaret Lopez and Miguel Lujan (whom Edmundo considered like a son), Linda Martinez and Tom Boze, and his son Gilbert. He is preceded in death by his parents Tomas and Sophia Martinez, his son Leonard, and grandson John; brothers Tom, Joe, Richard, Leon; and his sisters Mary Velasquez, and Tina LeDoux. Mumo had eight grandchildren: Letitia, Jestin, John, Paul, Chris, Amanda, Alysia, and Santana; and ten great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved and adored.
Edmundo was a proud United States Navy veteran of World War II and served his country in many theaters around the world as a Gunners Mate, Second Class. He was an avid fisherman, RVer, animal enthusiast, outdoorsman, and political aficionadomumo loved a good debate. Edmundo was a businessman early in his career first as the proprietor of Valley View Service Station and Grocery in Ranchos De Taos. Later he was co-founder of El Cortez Theater, and the now famous Martinez Hall also in Ranchos. Together with his brothers, they set the stage for the legendary Taos night life of the time. He later spent time in San Diego, CA with his brothers then returned to New Mexico to begin his career with State Government. For the next 31 years, Edmundo was a proud public servant and was appointed Deputy Commissioner of the Motor Vehicle Department during the height of his career under the Edwin Mechem administration.
Edmundo retired from State Government in 1986 and went on to enjoy the leisurely life of retirement for the next 30 years. Together with his wife, they traveled to Europe, Hawaii, and across the United States.

A Catholic rosary will be recited at the Kiva of Light Chapel, located at the Rivera Family Funeral Home, 417 E Rodeo Road, Santa Fe, on Wednesday October 21st at 7:00 p.m. Viewing and visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. at Rivera Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1301 Osage Avenue, Santa Fe, on Thursday October 22nd at 9:00 a.m.; interment will follow at the Veterans National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 10:30 a.m. A commemorative reception will be held following the burial at St. Johns gymnasium.
