Edmund “Wicho” Romero Aguilar of Camarillo, California, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on January 27, 2026, at the age of 95.
Edmund was born on February 23, 1930, in Bisbee, Arizona. Growing up in the small mining town, he developed a deep curiosity about the world beyond its borders—a curiosity that would shape the course of his life. After graduating from high school, he proudly entered the United States Navy, where he served honorably for many years. During his distinguished naval career, he earned the United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal and ultimately retired with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
Traveling the world while serving in the Navy was a source of great excitement and fulfillment for Edmund, allowing him to experience cultures and places far from his Arizona roots. After his military retirement, he continued his professional life with dedication and excellence, working for Computer Sciences Corporation and later retiring from a managerial position at NASA.
Edmund was preceded in death by his mother and father, Maggie (Romero) Kosminsky and Ramon Aguilar; his brother, Henry “Hank” Aguilar; his first wife, Catherine Louise (Fahnestock) Aguilar; his second wife, Barbara (Dumont) Aguilar; and his three children, Michael Aguilar, Donna Aguilar (also known as Donn Shy), and Christine (Aguilar) Green.
He is survived by his dear sister, Barbara “Bita” (Gomez) Baquirig; his grandchildren, Brandy Nightingale, Anthony Sunseri, Nicole McElwee, Natalie Kastner, and Kelli Hope; and his great-grandchildren, Gavin Kastner, Nick Clark, Bria Kastner, Peyton McElwee, Lucille Alaniz, and Melodi Alaniz.
Edmund was a kind, thoughtful, and generous man with a sly sense of humor who lived a life defined by integrity, service, and unwavering love for his family. He gave freely of himself and remained deeply devoted to those he cared about. His presence, wisdom, warmth, and laughter will be profoundly missed, but his legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Edmund’s memory to Habitat for Humanity or Disabled American Veterans (DAV)—two organizations he supported that reflect his lifelong commitment to service and helping others.
