Duane "Fuzzy Bear" Martinez, a beloved figure known for his warmth and humor, passed peacefully in his sleep on August 22, 2025, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Born on July 15, 1970, in Leadville, Colorado, Duane's vibrant personality and willingness to extend a helping hand to anyone in need left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Duane was a man of many passions. He had an unwavering love for his horses, which brought him immense joy, as did his interest in rodeo and the lively atmosphere of local events. His jovial spirit made him a cherished friend; he was known for his laughter, lighthearted jokes, and a love of dancing that kept the energy high in any gathering.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, embodied by his dedicated family. Duane is survived by his daughter Crystal Contreras and son-in-law Prudencio Arellanez, along with his cherished grandchildren: Andres, Derricc, and Heavenly. His parents, Louis and Susie Martinez, provided him with a strong foundation from which he spread happiness and kindness. Surviving siblings include William Martinez and sister-in-law Francine Martinez. He also cherished numerous nieces and nephews: Thomas and Jessica, Christopher, Francisco, and Rayanna Martinez; and his great-nephew and niece, Uriah and Camila Martinez, along with Christopher Jordan "CJ."
Duane's life was a celebration of connection and generosity, and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His spirit lives on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
