Dorothy (Dory) A. Hulburt (nee Zastrow) passed away Sept 6, 2026, after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.
She was born in Chicago, IL, in 1956 to Donald and Anne (nee Connolly) Zastrow.
Her passion for writing started at an early age, after serving as the editor for her high school newspaper, she earned a Journalism degree from University of Wisconsin – River Falls. She exercised her passion for writing in many ways, including as a reporter for newspapers in Minnesota and New Mexico, as a paralegal including working for a New Mexico supreme court justice, and authoring and ghost writing several books.
On Sept 3, 1988, she married Calvin Hulburt. They were married for 29 years until his death in 2017. Together they moved to Arroyo Hondo, NM, in 2000. At that time Dorothy became a reporter for the Taos Horsefly newspaper where she covered the rich art scene in Taos for many years.
When the Horsefly ceased publication, Dory changed careers and became licensed in massage therapy and practiced until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald, in 2002, and her husband, Calvin, in 2017. She is survived by her mother, Anne, her siblings, Barbara, Donna (Daniel) Sammon, Donald (Amy) Zastrow, and Patrick (Tiffany) Zastrow and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Dorothy’s wishes were to be cremated and her ashes scattered in a private service.
