Donald Robert MacFarlane

July 10, 1930-March 13, 2026

Don passed away peacefully in his home at The Montecito, Santa Fe, NM on March 13, 2026. He is survived by his daughter Ginger, son Eric and his wife Sharon, sister Athene Main and nephews Dale and Louis Main. He is also survived by 3 grand dogs and 2 grand turtles.

Donald R. MacFarlane was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on July 10, 1930, to Raymond S. MacFarlane and Harriet K. MacFarlane; their first child. His family moved to Chicago, Illinois when Don was a boy where he grew up.

Family was important to Don. He would often say his biggest accomplishment was raising his two beautiful children. He also enjoyed spending time with his sister and nephews.

Don valued the importance of education. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical engineering. He then went on to receive his PHD in nuclear engineering. He was a hardworking and successful businessman. He worked at several government research laboratories and started his own consulting company with colleagues. After selling his company he moved to New Mexico where he continued to work until he retired.

Retirement was a very happy time because he could now devote his time to outdoor adventures in New Mexico. He found this very fun and challenging. During his retirement he enjoyed many activities with friends and family. He especially loved to travel. He had the wonderful experience of visiting thirty-five countries and six continents. Don lived life with a vigor of those decades younger his age. He touched so many until the last minutes of his life.

The family would like to thank The Montecito of Santa Fe, private care givers, and Envoy Hospice for their exceptional support of Don and his family.

He will be buried at the Santa Fe Veterans cemetery followed by a celebration of life on July 10th 2026.
