It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Donald James Lopez

Donald passed peacefully on May 28 at

Presbyterian hospital with his family by his side following complications due to an infection from a hernia surgery

Donald was born on August 30 1939 in Cokedale Colorado to Mary and Charlie Lopez he was the oldest of 6 of their children

Donald went to school in Santa Fe

Graduating from SFHS

He also served in the Air Force as an SP in anchorage Alaska at Elmendorf Air Force base

Don made a lot of friends working at Maria’s New Mexican Kitchen and The Lamplighter and 13 years at Dillards plus most recently 10 years at TJ Maxx all in Santa Fe NM

Don loved his morning coffee and sweet treats and also loved music and enjoyed listening to his vinyl record collection

He enjoyed going to concerts and playing the slots at all the local casinos

Donald is survived by his wife of 60 1/2 years

Dolores and his son Greg his sister Nancy Portillo and his brother Manuel

Don was preceded in death by his mother Mary and father Charlie his sister Donna sister Mary Bernice

brother Charlie jr and his wife Phyliis and Donna’s husband Donald Duran and Nancys husband Arturo Gene Portillo plus Manuel’s wife Matilda “Tillie Lopez “

Also in- laws Cruz and Pita Valencia brother and sister in-laws Orlando and Barbara Valencia

Also special thanks to Victor Torres for helping Dolores and Greg during this trying time

His wishes were to be cremated and he will be interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery
