Diana P. Duran, a beloved daughter of Taos and a cherished pillar of her community, passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2026, just days before her 68th birthday. Born on May 27, 1958, in Taos, Diana’s life was deeply woven into the fabric of Northern New Mexico, where her laughter and love echoed through the hills and valleys she called home.

A graduate of Taos High School, Diana devoted 27 years to the Taos County Clerk’s Office, a testament to her steadfast dedication and unwavering commitment to public service. Yet, her career was only one thread in the rich tapestry of her life. She was a woman of remarkable spirit—funny, blunt, and unafraid to tell it like it was, never sugar coating but always carrying a profound well of love and support beneath her candid words. Diana was the rock of her family, a steady force who quietly bore the burdens of those she loved, often putting their needs before her own.

Her wit was as sharp as it was warm; she had a distinctive habit of calling everyone “bird brain,” a playful jibe that always brought a smile. Diana’s kitchen was her sanctuary and her gift to others. She cooked for everyone, ensuring no one went hungry, delivering tortillas to many in her community. Her baking was legendary—her zucchini bread and chocolate cake were delicious symbols of her caring heart. The fiestas, especially those in Las Vegas, held a special place in her soul, accompanied by the joyful beats of Northern New Mexico music that stirred her spirits. Weekends spent at casinos with her beloved husband, Cipriano “Cippy” Duran, and son Martin brought moments of joy and laughter that she treasured. Holidays were especially special to Diana.  Her home reflected each and every holiday with a home full of decorations that specifically brought joy to those who entered her home. Each and every holiday was a celebration with her treasured family and friends.

Diana’s generosity extended beyond her family and friends. Walking, prayer, and ministry to the elderly and sick, especially through the Guadalupanas, were expressions of her deep compassion and vibrant faith. She was loving and supportive, a best wife and amazing mother who showed love and affection in every action. Married for 40 years and six months to Cippy, their partnership was a cornerstone of her existence. She is survived by her husband Cippy; son Martin C. Duran; daughter Rosa (Nancy) Duran; granddaughter Claylie whom she fondly referred to as "my little sweetheart"; mother-in-law Belinda Medina; brother and sister-in-law Michael and Evelyn Duran; her nieces Sandy, whom she considered a daughter, and Loretta a granddaughter; sister Jenny Vigil (Eraclio); and numerous other nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Diana’s heart ached for those she loved who went before her: her parents, Jose Pablo Martinez and Rosa Maria Cruz; sisters Loretta Sanchez (Ramon) and Bonnie Benavides (Rudolpho); brothers Michael Martinez (Denise), and David Martinez; and her father-in-law Virgilio Duran. Their memories live on in her spirit and the stories woven through the lives she touched.

As we prepare to gather and honor Diana, the Rosary will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church of Taos on May 26, 2026 at 6PM. A Mass at St. Francis on May 27, beginning at 10AM with burial to follow at Talpa Cemetery. A meal will take place immediately following interment at the Sagebrush.

Diana carried everyone’s burdens with grace. She was blunt, yes, but fiercely loving, a voice that told it like it was, seasoned with humor and compassion. Her legacy is etched in every meal shared, every laugh echoed through the halls, and every quiet prayer whispered for those in need. In her, Northern New Mexico not only loses a treasured daughter but a woman whose spirit will soar for generations to come—always reminding us not to forget the power of love cooked from the heart.

The family of Diana Duran has granted Rivera Funeral home the honor of serving them.
