Diana Theresa Chavez, a vibrant spirit born on September 21, 1967, in Santa Fe, NM, left this world on February 26, 2026, after a brief illness. Surrounded by her loving family, she departed from the place she called home, leaving behind a legacy of strength, resilience, and heartfelt memories that will forever echo in the lives she touched.
Diana’s journey was one marked by remarkable tenacity and enthusiasm. She served the City of Santa Fe for an impressive 25 years, ultimately retiring as a dedicated Court Clerk. Her career was just one testament to her unwavering work ethic and commitment to her community. Diana was not only a professional but a beacon of support and encouragement to those around her.
In her youth, Diana blossomed into a spirited cheerleader at Agua Fria Elementary, capturing the hearts of many as she tirelessly advocated for others as a proud March of Dimes poster child. She graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1985, a crowning achievement that marked the beginning of a life unafraid to embrace challenges head-on.
With a contagious energy, Diana was reminiscent of a firecracker—quick-witted, straightforward, and fiercely loyal to her loved ones. Her bluntness and generous spirit drew friends and family alike into her orbit, ensuring she was a constant presence at every gathering. Whether it was babysitting for her nieces and nephews or supporting her family during crucial times, Diana never hesitated to extend a helping hand. She relished in the little moments, famously known amongst her loved ones for her ability to conquer any obstacle, proving time and again that nothing was impossible, even with adversity.
Diana found joy in various pursuits—from riding her beloved horse, Thunder, to cruising the streets in her treasured van, "Orange Crush." Her zest for life was vividly displayed as she rode her skateboard, showed the kids how to do wheelies in her wheelchair, scoured flea markets, or ventured to casinos. Every adventure she embarked upon spoke of her spirited character, her refusal to succumb to life's limitations, and her yearning to savor every experience to the fullest.
Her personal triumphs were numerous; among them, she celebrated being a proud homeowner and earning the affectionate title of the "Midnight Cowgirl" over her CB radio. The impact of her accomplishments resonates deeply—she proudly served as a role model not just by her achievements, but through her enduring spirit.
Diana’s love for family was evident in everything she did. She is survived by her devoted parents, Salvador and Olivia Chavez, her sister Ruth (Bryan Saiz) Chavez, her brothers Joseph (Elaine) Chavez, Daniel Chavez, Salvador Jr. (Angelique) Chavez, and Salomon (Celina Montoya) Chavez. Her nurturing nature extended to her many nieces and nephews—Ericalynn, Raquel, Mariah, Randy, Ashley, Angelo, and Daniel Jr., as well as her great nieces and nephews, including Aubrey, Ethan, Paisley, Maliakiah, Alara, and Josiah—each of whom carry a piece of her heart within theirs.
Though her grandparents, Melisendro and Senaida Gallegos, Daniel and Juanita Chavez, and special niece Chantal Chavez along with other relatives and friends, have passed, their spirits remain entwined with hers, forever honoring a life lived with purpose and love.
As we remember Diana Theresa Chavez, we celebrate a life vibrant with color, courage, and an indomitable will. Her laughter will echo in our hearts, her stories will ignite our spirits, and her unwavering love will forever bind together a family and community shaped by her grace. May her journey be met with eternal peace, and may her memory inspire us to tackle challenges with the same fire and determination she exemplified throughout her remarkable life.
