Dennis Edward Mares

Dennis Edward Mares, born on October 4, 1976, in beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico, shuffled off this mortal coil on July 10, 2025, after a long and valiant battle with illness. Dennis was indeed a local gem, shining as brightly as the Southwestern sun, and not just because of his impeccable taste in music.

From dropping beats as a DJ to serving up concoctions behind the bar at Paramount, Casa Sena, and a myriad of other establishments over three decades, Dennis made a career out of what he loved best: connecting with people and sharing good vibes. His transition to Ewing Irrigation may have seemed unexpected, but rumor has it he found great joy in discussing daily news of the day, or parts needed by contractors to complete their job orders, always injecting a wry sense of humor to brighten the day of his co-workers.

Those who know Dennis will tell you that he had a knack for making friends wherever he went, proving that there’s nothing quite like forging connections over a well-mixed cocktail or a shared melody. He took pride in his relationships and often turned tough situations into moments of laughter and understanding—like a magician, but instead of rabbits, he pulled heartwarming camaraderie from his top hat.

One of his fondest memories was whisking his mother away for a birthday trip to the Los Alamos Brewery. Indeed, he was a devoted son, forever proud of his role as a single dad to his son, Robert Mares. Dennis often touted fatherhood as his greatest achievement, providing a loving home filled with music and laughter.

With interests that spanned from drone flying—where he captured video and photos like the modern-day Picasso—to creating music that resonated, Dennis embraced life fully and encouraged others to do the same. He was super knowledgeable, keeping up with the latest trends and sharing insights with anyone willing to listen, all while maintaining that friendly charm that left an impression on all who crossed his path.

Dennis is survived by his beloved son, Robert Mares, parents Rosemarie Ulibarri and Rudy, aunts and uncles Pauline Mares (Mark) and Christine Gonzales (Art), dear cousins Joseph, Cheryl, Elisa, and Veronica, his extended family the Ulibarri’s who loved him dearly, and most importantly his love of his life and dearest friend Juli King. He joins his cherished grandparents, Robert E. Mares and Flora P. Mares, who undoubtedly are setting up a jukebox in the great beyond, hoping he’ll spin some tunes for them upon his arrival.

A celebration of life will be held at Rivera Family Funeral & Cremations of Santa Fe on July 31, 2025, from 1 PM to 3 PM. As we raise a glass in honor of Dennis, let’s remember him for the laughter, the friendships, and the love he generously spread throughout his life. Here’s to the guy who could flip a tough situation into a heartwarming tale faster than you could change the playlist!
