David Felix Kaufmann

David Felix Kaufmann (78) of Santa Fe, passed away at home surrounded by his family on November 3rd, 2025 from ALS. Beloved father of Dawn Kaufmann, father-in-law of Joshua Thorp and devoted grandfather to Sonia Kaufmann Thorp and Ginevra Kaufmann Thorp. 

Raised in Princeton, NJ, he moved out to New Mexico in the early 1970’s to study art at UNM. He fell in love with the open spaces and beautiful landscapes, married and studied Buddhism, and became an expert gardener. Later he moved back to NJ to take care of his mother and sister and her family. After living in Florida, he returned to New Mexico to be close to his grandchildren and delighted in seeing them grow. 

He was an active artist, experimenting with many mediums his whole life, enjoyed art history, studying science and politics, experiencing nature and gardening. Shiva will be held at the home of Dawn Kaufmann and family at 3:00 PM this coming Sunday, 1007 Siringo Rondo East.
