Cordelia 'Cordy'
Casias
October 1, 1937 – April 11, 2026
Cordelia Casias, affectionately known as "Cordy," passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, in Bernalillo, New Mexico, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on October 1, 1937, in Velarde, New Mexico, Cordelia was a woman of unwavering devotion to her family, faith, and traditions.
Cordelia proudly carried the maiden name Valdez and shared a special bond with her mother, a relationship cherished deeply throughout her life. She was united in marriage to Rafael Casias on July 10, 1993, and together they treasured many years of companionship until his passing. Devoted Christian values grounded Cordelia’s life: she was steadfast in her faith and earnestly encouraged her children to cultivate their own meaningful relationships with the Lord, finding renewed strength in her spirituality during her middle years.
A homemaker for most of her life, Cordelia took great pride in maintaining a clean and welcoming home. Her warm hospitality was well-known—no one ever left her house hungry. Cordelia’s culinary talents were celebrated by all who knew her, with her red chili beef enchiladas holding a special place in the hearts and memories of her family. Barry Romero, her son, fondly recalls those delicious meals and the times they spent together, including a memorable trip on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, where she enjoyed the experience immensely.
Cordelia’s creativity flourished through her sewing and quilting skills. She lovingly repaired her children’s clothes and crafted Christmas stockings for each family member. Having not experienced the warmth of festive celebrations in her own childhood, she made it her mission to ensure that holidays were thoroughly joyful and memorable for her loved ones. Her affection for holiday traditions was matched by her enjoyment of Hallmark movies, which she delighted in watching year-round. Alongside her husband, she cherished scenic drives to Jemez and leisurely walks down the old county road in Velarde, moments that brought her peace and happiness.
Known for her impeccable style, Cordelia was always the best dressed in the room, radiating grace and confidence. Her kind, loving, and caring nature touched everyone around her, and she was admired for her clarity of purpose and will.
Cordelia is survived by her children: Brian Romero, Bud Romero, Bernie Romero (Mary), Benny Romero, Barry Romero, and Beverley Romero; her grandchildren: Grace, Marco, and Carlo Romero, Capriza Casias, Kezziah Green, and Twila Casias; and her great-grandchildren: Casian, Kaiden, and Acadia Green. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings Danny Valdez, Rosie Klick, and Julie Padilla.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rafael Casias; her parents, Elizadia and Eduardo Valdez; and her cherished cousin, Alice Valdez-Martinez.
Cordelia Casias exemplified a life dedicated to family, faith, and kindness. Through her unwavering love and generous spirit, she leaves behind a legacy cherished by all whose lives she touched. Her memory will continue to be a blessing and an inspiration to her family and friends for generations to come.
