Consuelo Maria Martinez, a beloved matriarch and cherished figure in the Santa Fe community, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving family in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on January 25, 1948, in the vibrant heart of Santa Fe, Consuelo's life journey was marked by an unwavering commitment to kindness, service, and compassion.

For an impressive 28 years, Consuelo delighted in her role as a cook for the Santa Fe Public Schools. Her infectious smile and inviting spirit warmed the hearts of countless students and staff alike. Every day, she infused the cafeteria with laughter and joy, ensuring that each child felt welcomed and loved. Consuelo was more than just an employee; she became a memory etched in the minds of generations, a testament to the profound impact one person can have on a community.

Emerging from humble beginnings, she consistently placed the needs of others above her own, embodying selflessness in its purest form. Her generosity was boundless, often remarked upon by those who knew her; she would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. It is said that the essence of Consuelo could be felt in the warmth of her cooking and the kindness of her heart.

A proud graduate of Santa Fe High School, Consuelo was not only a dedicated professional but also a social butterfly whose radiant personality drew people from near and far. She had the ability to brighten any room and forge connections that transcended ordinary acquaintances. Her nephew Francisco "Quico" often fondly remembers her taking the time to teach him the joys of cooking, passing on the knowledge and love for culinary arts that she cherished deeply.

Consuelo's family was the nucleus of her happiness, particularly her granddaughter Madison, who she adored unconditionally. Her eyes would sparkle with pride whenever she spoke of Madison, a reflection of the joy and hope that family brought her each day.

Consuelo is survived by her devoted son, Richard, and his wife, Renee; her cherished granddaughter, Madison; her loving siblings, Marcy Ulibarri, Francisco Vigil, and Patricia Vigil; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends who were honored to share in her life.

She was predeceased by her mother, Viola Garcia, and her father, Antonio Vigil and sister Paula Quintana whose legacies of love and nurturing laid the foundation for the steadfast character Consuelo would embody throughout her life.

In her quiet moments, Consuelo found solace in her hobbies. A collector of religious figures and whimsical windchimes, her curious spirit resonated in the many odds and ends she cherished. Music accompanied her through life, its melodies wrapping around her like a comforting embrace.

The promise of a lifelong legacy is held within the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know her. As we gather to celebrate her life at Our Lady Of Guadalupe in Santa Fe, we will pay homage to a woman who effortlessly wove a tapestry of love and kindness into the fabric of our lives.

Her Rosary will be held at 10:30 AM on February 24, 2026, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Consuelo will finally rest in peace at Rosario Catholic Cemetery, where her spirit will remain intertwined with the land she loved.

Consuelo Maria Martinez will forever be remembered not just for her accomplishments, but for the light she shone into the lives of those around her, a beacon of hope and love that will never fade.
