Colette Consuelo Herrera, cherished by all who knew her, departed this world on July 6, 2026, in Albuquerque. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family as she transitioned from her earthly home to be with her Lord and savior.

Born on November 2, 1930, Colette lived a life deeply rooted in faith, family, and an unwavering sense of kindness. Her spiritual journey was at the center of everything she did, and her dedication led her to serve at the Poor Clare Monastery—a testament to her devotion and sense of calling. From her earliest days, Colette embodied a loving heart, always striving to lift and encourage those around her.

Colette attended school with determination and pride, earning her high school diploma and carrying a thirst for learning into every aspect of her life. She had a remarkable ability to find joy and fulfillment in her devotion to faith and her beloved church. Her hands were always busy with meaningful work—she took comfort and purpose in creating, tending, and giving.

Her personality was a beautiful blend of the spiritual and the spirited. Colette was known for her loving and generous soul, often expressing affection and support through humor or through gentle feistiness. She was never one to let a moment pass without a smile, a joke, or a story that would brighten someone else’s day. She was very artistic, pouring her creativity into spiritual writings, cards, and letters. It was these thoughtful gestures that touched the hearts of so many. Being honored by Mother Superior for her writings was among her proudest accomplishments, but she never considered her work complete unless it brought comfort or inspiration to others.

Colette’s life was blessed with the love of a large and devoted family. She is survived by her sisters: Christine Sullivan, Viola Garcia, Gloria Herrera, Virginia (Sonny) Ortiz, and Martha Herrera; her sisters-in-law: Priscella Herrera and Gloria Keahbone; and her brothers: Louis Herrera and Raymond (Dolores) Herrera. Colette was also survived by her loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Their bonds remain unbreakable, their memories together cherished and enduring.

She is now reunited with her dearly departed parents, Cliofes and Martina Herrera; her beloved siblings John Michael, Jake, Charles, and Billy Herrera; her sister Rosie Herrera; her brothers-in-law John Sullivan and Lino Garcia; and her sisters-in-law Virginia Herrera and Irene Herrera. We take comfort in knowing they are together again in peace.

Those left behind will remember Colette for her spiritual strength, her ever-giving nature, her creative and artistic spirit, and the warmth with which she greeted everyone in her life. Her beautiful legacy endures in the cards written, the laughter shared, and the countless moments when she exemplified love through action.

In remembering Colette Consuelo Herrera, we celebrate a life well lived—a life of faith, creativity, kindness, and deep connection. She will be missed dearly and remembered always.

The family would also like to express there deep gratitude for the heartfelt care that Spanish Trails Rehabilitation Center and Del Corazon Hospice showed our sister Colette.
