Christina “Tina” Salazar Ertmer

Christina “Tina” Salazar Ertmer, devoted art teacher and lifelong dog lover, passed away on April 9, 2025. She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Salazar; mother, Stella Garcia Salazar; sister, Frances Senna; and nephew, Joey Senna.

She is survived by her aunt, Connie Griego, and husband, Gil Griego; her cousins, who were very dear and special to her, Alyssa and Krista Griego; her aunt, Sylvia Garcia (Uncle Pete Garcia, dec’d.) and family; her aunt, Darlene Salazar (Uncle Freddie Salazar, dec’d) and family; cousin, David Trujillo; her cherished sister-in-law, Mary Ann Arguello, and husband, Darrell, of Denver, Colorado.

She will be remembered by her many cousins whom she loved dearly. Heartfelt gratitude to her cousins Jerry Garcia and Taylor Sanchez for all their love, help and support during her illness. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Tina was a graduate of Loretto Academy and New Mexico State University. She spent many years teaching art at Young Junior High and Alameda Junior High, where she was known for her creative spirit, sense of fun, and deep friendships with her fellow teachers.

A proud native Santa Fean, Tina embraced the culture and character of The City Different. Raised on Garcia Street, she was proud to be a Garcia and carried that identity with her throughout her life.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful and compassionate staff at Sierra Vista Living Care for the kindness and dignity they extended to Tina in her final chapter. Special thanks to Carol, Brandon, Dolores, Maria, Samantha, Stephanie and the entire staff at Sierra Vista—they were all so loving and kind.

Funeral mass will be held on May 14, 2025, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis. Rosary at 10:30, Mass at 11:00, with burial to follow at Rosario Cemetery.
