Charlie N Lujan

Charlie Lujan, a lifelong resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico, entered eternal rest on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the age of 77. Charlie was born on April 2, 1949, in Nambé, New Mexico, a place that always remained close to his heart.

Charlie was one of the hardest-working people you could ever meet, but he will be remembered most for the kindness and joy he shared with everyone around him. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome, loved, and at home. Whether through a warm smile, a heartfelt conversation, a shared meal, or a song, Charlie made lasting connections with everyone he met.

Music was at the center of Charlie's life. It was music that first brought him and the love of his life, Marlene R. Lujan, together, and throughout their marriage they shared that love with family, friends, and their community. Together they celebrated life's special moments through song, bringing joy, comfort, and laughter wherever they went.

Charlie took great pride in his work and built a successful career in plumbing, owning and operating Charlie's Plumbing and Heating for many years. After retiring in 2012, he dedicated his time to volunteering at senior centers throughout Santa Fe, sharing his love of music with Cielo Azul at Pasa Tiempo, performing alongside Marlene at the Luisa Senior Center, and helping Sister Jo teach guitar at the M.E.G. Senior Center. He treasured the friendships he made, and the meals and laughter shared after every gathering.

A man of deep faith, Charlie was a devoted parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He believed in God, in kindness, and in treating others with love and respect. He also enjoyed spending time with his lifelong friends and family through the S.P.M.D.T.U. Councilo #57.

Charlie's greatest legacy is the love he gave so freely. He leaves behind a family who adored him, countless friends, and a community made better by his generosity, music, and unwavering kindness.

Though he will be deeply missed, his songs, his laughter, and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents (raised by) Pablita and Eduardo Ortiz, parents Eloy Lujan and Vicenta Ortiz Lujan of Nambé, NM, sister Darlene Lujan, brothers Eloy Lujan Jr., Joe and wife Sharon Lujan, Federico Lujan and Armando Lujan (Florinda). His mother-in-law Virginia Romero and father-in-law Jose Romero, brothers-in-law: Lino Ortiz (Miranda), Eugenio Sandoval (Helen), Cris Hyde (Ivy), George Romero (Virginia), Horacio Romero, and sister-in-law Patricia Martinez (Albert).

He is survived by his loving wife Marlene Lujan, who would have been celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary on Nov. 4, 2026, and his sons Nicholas and Eduardo Lujan. His siblings, Miranda Ortiz, Helen Sandoval (Eugenio), Edna Maes (Eddie), Ivy Hyde (Cris), Ronald Lujan (Geri). Sisters-in-laws: Florinda Lujan (Armando), Erlinda Key (Richard), Dolores Romero, Virginia Romero (George), Loyola Garcia (Raymond), and Roberta Martinez (Ascension Jr.). Brothers-in-law: Beto Martinez (Patricia), and Pete Romero (Angie). His God Children: Kristie Sandoval, Mario Luera, Mateo DeVargas, Jacob DeVargas, Ashley Rae Martinez, Alyssa Gallegos, and numerous cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.

Thank you for all of Charlie’s incredible friends and college buddies who showed up to reminisce, challenge his memory and have laughs during his rehabilitation: Tomas Niño, Leo Gonzales, Lalo Garduño, Larry Trujillo, Ramon Vigil, Ronald Ortiz, Ruben Luera, Randy McCloud, Dennis Cruz and many others.
