Caroline “Carole” Gurule, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother, passed away unexpectedly on December 7, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Elizar Valdez and Bernadina Martinez, and her stepmother, Rosa Valdez; her paternal grandparents, Estevan and Manuelita Gurule; her parents, Gilbert and Bernadina (Ina) Gurule; her siblings Edward Gurule and Peggy Ann Gurule; two infant sisters; an infant brother; and her nephew, Carlos Gurule.
Carole was born in Farmington, New Mexico, on October 24, 1959, to Gilbert and Bernadina (Ina) Gurule. She was raised in Tres Piedras and attended Mesa Vista High School, graduating in 1977. In 1982 she welcomed her first son, Fernando, and later welcomed her son Jerome in 1993. She continued her education and spent much of her career working for Fisher Scientific, a subcontractor for Los Alamos National Laboratory, before holding various other positions throughout her life. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, Carole moved back to Ojo Caliente to help care for her ailing mother. She later relocated to Amarillo, Texas, to be closer to her granddaughter, where she lived until her passing.
In her leisure time, Carole loved crafting and crocheting. She enjoyed being a homebody and cherished the quiet moments spent with her granddaughter, teaching her crafting skills and weaving her life lessons into the fabric of her loved ones’ lives.
Carole is survived by her two sons, Fernando (Rachel) Gurule of Ancones, NM, and Jerome (Michelle) Gurule of Amarillo, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Elliana Gurule, Michael (Jenelle) Sandoval, Mario Sandoval, Kenneth Sandoval-Busher (Joseph), and Raymond Salinas (Santana). She leaves behind her brothers, Silviano “Silver” (Barbara) Gurule and Ernest (Gail) Gurule, as well as a special cousin who was like a sister, Vangie Chavez. Carole is also survived by many close aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 4:00–5:00 p.m., followed by a rosary at Rivera Family Funeral Home. Carole will be laid to rest on December 22, 2025, in the Valdez family plot in Las Tusas, New Mexico.
Carole leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and creativity that will echo in the hearts of all who knew her. As we celebrate her life, we hold close the memories she gifted us and carry her spirit forward with love and affection
