Carmen D. Medina, a lifelong resident of Taos, passed away suddenly on January 12, 2026.
Carmen is survived by her sister Gloria Chacon, her daughter Jacqueline Medina (Erik) and son Paul Medina (Kieulan), son-in-law David Thielmann, her grandchildren, Stephanie, Moriah, Mante, Logan, Isabella, and Luca, four great-grandchildren, and her brothers-and sisters-in-law Jose Dolores Medina, Andy Medina, Mary McDowell, Seraphine Montoya, Michael Medina, Eva Belshaw, and Robert Medina, as well as several nieces and nephews whom she loved. She was preceded in death by her mother, Juanita Pacheco, her daughter, Margaret Thielmann, and her son, Raymond Medina.
Carmen was a woman of deep faith who loved reading and traveling. She dedicated her life to education and service, teaching English as a second language and tutoring children and adults through the Taos Literacy Project. She began her career working at the Harwood Library in Taos and later served as the Children’s Librarian for the Taos Public Library, where she fostered a love of learning and reading in countless children.
A Rosary will be held on February 12, 2026, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on February 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, with interment to follow at the Pacheco Cemetery.
