Bryan John Edlund, 68, passed away on September 3, 2026, in Salida, Colorado. He was born in 1958, in Chicago, Illinois.

Bryan lived a life shaped by the outdoors, hard work, and a deep connection to skiing. He moved to Taos for skiing, a choice that reflected both his passion for the mountains and the way he chose to live. Over the years, he built a career in slope operations and was especially known for his work as a lead snow maker in Sipapu, where he held his last job from November 2, 2024 to present. His dedication to the ski world was recognized in a lasting way when he was inducted into the New Mexico Ski Hall of Fame.

He also pursued education in the arts, earning a Master’s degree in Art. Bryan was a man of many interests and many skills, often described as a jack of all trades and a master of none, a phrase that suited his independent spirit and wide-ranging abilities. He loved being outdoors and found joy in skiing, hiking, camping, soaking in hot springs, and taking in rock concerts. He was also a big Brewers fan and a devoted Green Bay Packers fan who never missed a game. He treasured the experience of a good story well told.

Bryan’s life was marked by adventure and individuality. He was known as a loner who lived in Carson, and those who knew him also knew his gruffer edges—he could be grumpy and stubborn—but these qualities were simply part of the character that made him unmistakably himself. He shared many memorable road trips with his dogs and gathered lots of friends and acquaintances along the way.

He is survived by his son, Joseph Edlund, and daughter-in-law, Sierra; his grandchildren, Kole Paltzer, Soleil Edlund, Louis Delise III (Alyssa), Briar Diener, and Aubrey McCarthy; his loving companion, Starr Sutliff, and his beloved dogs, Beauregard and GG, who were a cherished part of his daily life. He is also survived by his wife, Susan Ryan; and stepchildren, Kenny Hill, Patrick Hill, and Jacqueline Hill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepson, Ryan Hill.

Bryan will be remembered for his love of the mountains, his dedication to the work he believed in, and the distinct way he moved through the world. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.
