Billy Joe
Terry
d. Aug 16, 2026
Questa, New Mexico
Billy Joe Terry, born in 1948, in Alabama, passed away on August 16, 2026, in Albuquerque, NM. His life was marked by compassion for others, an irrepressible curiosity, and a steadfast dedication to making the world a kinder, more understanding place.
Billy devoted much of his career to helping others as a Special Education teacher in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he touched the lives of countless students and colleagues before retiring. He was known not only for his professional expertise, but also for his deeply caring spirit, sincerely investing in the growth and well-being of the children he taught. He obtained his Master's degree, further exemplifying his commitment to learning and self-improvement.
Beyond his vocation, Billy was an individual of many interests and enthusiasms. He was a true spiritual seeker and a free thinker, a proud accomplishment that he carried throughout his journey. His resourcefulness and creative spirit often found expression in his passions—he was devoted to needle point and loved exploring thrift stores for hidden treasures. An avid rock and antique collector, especially of pottery and gems, Billy found beauty in the unique and the unusual.
Billy was also a Raiki master, a testament to his belief in the healing power of kindness and energy. He was methodical in everything he undertook, yet exuded warmth and humor, and he had the remarkable gift of being both a persuasive "negotiator" and a sincere, dear friend to those around him. Those who knew him well will remember his big smile, his gentle and sweet nature, and his wonderful sense of humor.
His pleasures in life were simple and genuine; Billy loved chocolate and relished quiet evenings as what he fondly called a “TV junkie.” He was also proud to be a strict vegetarian, honoring his convictions with patience and consistency.
Billy’s family and friendships meant a great deal to him. He is survived by his dear friends, who stood by his side with unwavering support and affection. He leaves behind his nephew Bryan, and cousins Linda and Gene Koon and Tina Barnes. Billy was also preceded in death by his younger brother, whose memory he cherished.
Billy Joe Terry’s legacy is one of wisdom, caring, and joyful discovery. He will be remembered as a man whose smile lit up rooms, whose sincerity forged lifelong bonds, and whose gentle heart made the world a gentler place. Those who were fortunate enough to know Billy will carry with them the gifts of his friendship, his laughter, and his unwavering kindness, committing his memory to their hearts always.
