Billy Doyle Houser, a cherished resident of Red River, New Mexico, passed away on January 10, 2026, at the age of 74. Born in 1951, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Billy embraced life with a friendly spirit and a deep commitment to his Christian faith.
Billy lived in Red River for more than 20 years, working in various places throughout town and forming a deep, lasting bond with the community he loved. A beautiful woodcarver and a skilled handyman, he took great pride in creating and fixing things with his hands. He was devoted to those he held dear and often took the time to visit friends, creating moments that became treasured memories. Among his closest friends were Jimmy, who was like a brother to him, as well as Marla and John. In one of life’s beautiful coincidences, Billy first met Jimmy while riding the Red Bus—an encounter that grew into a lifelong friendship filled with joy and shared experiences.
Billy’s faith guided much of his life and led him on several meaningful trips to Israel, where he once lived for six months. During his time there, he stayed in East Jerusalem and formed friendships and lasting connections with Palestinian Christians. While in Israel, he met Caesar, who lived on the Mount of Olives, and their time together left a lasting impression on Billy. Although he hoped to visit the Temple Mount, access was limited due to a diplomat staying there at the time. Instead, Billy experienced a profound and memorable moment when a young man pointed him toward an arrow. Following it, Billy came upon a place of marble flooring, where he stayed for one night—an experience he often reflected on with deep meaning.
Billy found comfort and joy in woodcarving, listening to Christian music, and watching western movies. His devotion to his faith was evident in his daily life and in the programs he enjoyed that reflected his beliefs. Despite being legally blind, Billy never allowed this challenge to limit his passions or his ability to connect with others, living as a testament to resilience and quiet strength.
Billy’s warm-hearted nature and homebody spirit made him a beloved presence in the Red River community. He had a special way of making others feel welcome and valued, always offering a friendly smile and kind words. He will be remembered not only for his perseverance, but for the love and kindness he shared so freely.
A burial service will be held on January 20, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Red River Cemetery in Red River, New Mexico.
As we honor the life of Billy Doyle Houser, we remember the joy he brought into our lives and the lasting mark he left on our hearts. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
