Benjamin Wilbur Gomez, a humble and devoted servant of the Lord, loving husband, father, grandfather, pastor, caregiver, and steadfast friend, entered into eternal rest on January 25, 2026, to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ. Born on August 6, 1962, Ben lived a life radiant with unwavering faith, selfless compassion, and profound love for those around him.
For more than sixteen years, Pastor Ben faithfully led the congregation at Devine Destiny Church in our community, shepherding souls with grace, wisdom, and an unshakeable devotion to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His love for God was the foundation of everything he did; he preached, prayed, counseled, and lived in a way that drew others closer to the light of Christ. Whether in the pulpit or offering quiet support, he was a constant presence for his church family, always ready to help, comfort, or encourage.
Ben's greatest earthly joy was his family. He shared 45 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Hazel B. Gomez, his faithful partner in life, love, and faith. As a dedicated caregiver of people in need, he poured himself into nurturing and supporting those he cherished. He was the proud father of three children: Jennie Kirby (partner Lee Brenner), Carolyn M. Moreno (husband Manuel Moreno), and Benjamin J. Gomez (wife Lisa Gomez). As a grandfather to Raphael, Anna Maria, Sarahlyn, Ashley, Edward, Lindsey, Victoria, and Anjelina, he delighted in their lives, sharing stories, laughter, and endless unconditional love.
An alumni of St. Michael’s high school, passionate Broncos fan, Ben also enjoyed sports like basketball and football, coaching youth basketball teams on and off for years and mentoring young people with patience and encouragement. He made friends everywhere he went—everyone knew and loved him for his genuine kindness and willingness to help anyone in need.
His life was defined by selflessness, culminating in his final heroic act: sacrificing himself to save a loved one from danger. In that moment, as throughout his life, Ben embodied the sacrificial love of Christ he so faithfully proclaimed.
Ben was preceded in death by his grandparents, AnnaMaria and Jose Gomez; his father, Benjamin Gomez Sr.; his brother, Donald Gomez; and his sister, Ernestine Ochana.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Hazel B. Gomez; his children, Jennie, Carolyn, and Benjamin; his eight cherished grandchildren; his mother, Mary Gomez & Eloy; his sisters, Judy Garcia and Darlene Gomez-Lovato (husband Fernando); many beloved nephews and nieces; and a wide circle of church family, friends, and community members whose lives he touched forever.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in the promise of Scripture: "Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your Lord." Ben now rests in the presence of the God he loved so deeply.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Devine Destiny Church in Ben's memory.
