Arturo Montoya, of El Prado, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2025. He touched many lives with his kindness and generosity. He is preceded in death by his parents JJ and Juanita Montoya, his wife Eufracia, son Dennis, infant daughter Loraine, sister Alice Loraine, and brother Ernesto.
Arturo will be fondly remembered by his daughter Michelle, son-in-law Kevin, grandson Nicholas, sisters Cora Garcia (Rumaldo) and Lillian Martinez, sister-in-law Dolores Montoya, as well as many extended family members and countless friends who shared adventurous times with him.
Born in Ranchitos, May 1933, he grew up in El Prado helping his parents over the years. In 1953 he enlisted in the Army, completing his basic training in Georgia. After finishing Signal Core and Survey training there, he traveled to Germany for his enlistment. Upon returning to New Mexico, he worked with the State Department of Transportation and later the Molybdenum mine in Questa. A chance encounter led him to meet Eufracia, his wife of 69 years, and they raised their two children, Dennis and Michelle. Arturo enjoyed traveling, exploring new places and making friends along the way. He especially enjoyed spending time outdoors with friends, camping, fishing, and hunting. He and Eufracia loved living in El Prado, cultivating and enjoying all the crops they grew each year, and spending time there with family and friends.
