Archie L. Trujillo was an active member of the Taos community, but he was also a loving patriarch of his family. He was the eldest of eight brothers and sisters from Arroyo Hondo, NM. He raised his children and grandchildren in the Catholic church and shared the sound of his guitar and tenor voice from the choir loft of Our Lady of Sorrows. “Big Archie” was a musician and a promoter of Northern New Mexican music as one of the original organizers of the Fiestas de Arroyo Hondo. Those who remember him recall his life surrounded by music.
He was adored by his grandchildren - giving them nicknames and songs and making them feel immensely valued by the time and advice he gave to each of them. He taught important lessons of quality work as he tended to the land and raised his farm animals. Archie also helped organize the structural restoration of the church in Arroyo Hondo.
Archie loved sports, especially his Dallas Cowboys and Taos Tigers. He loved to travel, and in his last years took his family on cross-country road trips. He was a civil engineer by trade in his younger years and a bus driver in his later years. He worked for the Taos Municipal Schools, and occasionally drove the Taos Trolley - reciting beautiful historical tours to countless visitors to Taos.
He spent almost 50 years with his wife, Mary Jane Trujillo. He is preceded in death by his parents Ruben and Ida Trujillo. He is survived by his sons, Arcenio Jr. Trujillo, Isaiah Trujillo, and Alberto Trujillo; and his siblings Raymond Trujillo, Alfred Trujillo, Olivia Ortiz, Ruby Martinez, Michael Trujillo, Ruben “Boone” Trujillo [Dorotea Trujillo], and Matthew Trujillo. He had nine grandchildren and nine godchildren. He was loved by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
