Anthony “Tonio” Segura, age 60, passed away on April 21, 2025.
Tonio was born on December 17, 1964, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Juanita and Liberato Segura. He was raised in the close-knit town of Cerrillos, NM, surrounded by family, friends, and the strong roots of community.
Though he proudly graduated from the school of hard knocks, Tonio lived with heart and tenacity, and was known for never missing a phone call or a chance to send out a song dedication on 89.1. He had a deep love for New Mexico music and an even deeper love for the people in his life.
Tonio was a sharp-dressed man, with an even sharper sense of humor. He was known for his respectfulness, his ability to make people laugh. A loyal friend, a loving brother, and a gentleman, he had a kind spirit, especially toward his elders, and always looked out for those around him.
He was a force of laughter and love. He had a way with the ladies, never parting without a hug and a corny joke. Tonio will be remembered fondly by countless friends and family.
He is survived by his son, Anthony Segura, and granddaughter Lyla Segura; his beloved mother Juanita Montoya; his siblings Veronica (Hipolito) Serrano, Nena (Mike) Saiz, Pat (Kelly) Segura, Jerry (Rose) Segura, Twiggy Segura, Roxanne Segura, and Christine Flores. He is also survived by his close friend, Tammy Sanchez, his special aunt Frieda Montoya, his pet Chapo and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Liberato Segura, his stepmother, Ida Segura and his brother Benny Segura.
A rosary will be celebrated at 10:30am followed by a celebration of life mass at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Perish, #7 1st St, Los Cerrillos, NM. An internment to follow at the Los Cerrillos Cemetery followed by a reception at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall.
Pallbearers are Anthony Segura, Pat Segura and Jerry Segura.
To honor Tonio’s memory, turn up some Purple Haze, Bad Boys, or tune in to 89.1 to enjoy some good New Mexican music.
