On October 2, 2026, our treasured husband, father, “Pop Pop”, brother and friend, Anthony A. Lucero, was called home by our Lord after complications he suffered from a long term illness. He was born on December 29, 1956 to Arthur J. Lucero, Jr. and Carolyn Barela. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Anthony is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years of marriage, Susan, and their two loving children Patricia A. Lucero (Andre), Dominique T. M. Huerta (Nick); five grandchildren: August, Adam, Adan, and Alex Moore of Santa Fe, NM and Ryker Huerta of Bowling Green, KY and five step grandchildren: Madison and Matthew Jackson of Montgomery, AL, and Makayla, Ericka and Chase Huerta of Bowling Green, KY. He is survived by his sister, Ann Gomez (John Joseph) of Pojoaque, NM, his Aunt Lucy Silva and Aunt Helen Salas, both of Santa Fe, NM.

Anthony is a graduate of St. Michael’s High School Class of 1975. His most cherished school memories originate with his classmates of Our Lady of Guadalupe Elementary and St. Michael’s High School. His professional career began after high school within the work co-op program of the NM Highway Department, combining school at NMSU with work intervals at various locations throughout the state requiring bridge and highway construction. He later transferred to the NM Office of the State Engineer where he accumulated over 26 years of public service working on hydrographic surveys, water adjudication, and co-authored technical reports for water use. He enjoyed interviewing generations of ranchers and farmers as their rich history became the basis of his knowledge throughout his career.

As head of an all female household, Anthony was active in coaching various Little League baseball and softball teams, Youth basketball teams, and of course women’s softball teams. He was an enthusiastic Catechist and Confirmation teacher for several years at Santa Maria de la Paz and St. Francis Cathedral. His dedication to religious education of teen age youth was fostered by his love of God, the Catholic faith and family. Anthony was known to be an incredible historian and story teller. He was a lifetime member of the Caballeros de Vargas serving as past President, Treasurer and Board Member accumulating 19 years of service to the community. He participated in the Caballeros’ production of the Los Tres Reyes Magos play, as director and reader. Anthony enjoyed participating in the annual novena to Our Blessed Mother and was dedicated to the Caballeros’ mission to serve as her Honor Guard.

The family would like to extend their grateful appreciation to his classmates Deacon Larry Sandoval, Ray Bustos and George Vigil for their devoted participation in the Holy Rosary and Funeral mass. Funeral arrangements will be conducted by Rivera Funeral Home. The public viewing will be held at 5PM on Sunday, October 18, 2026 followed by the Holy Rosary to be recited by the Caballeros de Vargas at 6PM at Rivera Funeral Home.
