ANDREI NIKOLAEVICH MATLASHOV Sept. 25, 1958 – Aug. 3, 2025
Andrei Nikolaevich Matlashov, born on September 25, 1958, in Tyrnyauz, Kabarda-Balkar ASSR, passed away on August 3, 2025, in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
He is survived by his loving wife, Tatiana Matlashova, and his two daughters, Valentina and Yuliya Matlashova.
Andrei was an incredible man, wise, generous, and deeply curious about the world. He dedicated nearly two decades to his work at Los Alamos National Laboratory before continuing his research at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) in South Korea, where he made lasting contributions and lifelong friendships.
Beyond his professional achievements, Andrei lived with great passion. He was an avid cyclist, logging hundreds of kilometers along the roads and paths of South Korea. At home in Los Alamos, he loved playing volleyball with friends, hiking the mountain trails, and taking peaceful walks through town. A skilled mushroom hunter, he often explored the forests of the Santa Fe mountains with his family and Yuliya’s pup, Zelda—whom he adored.
A funeral service and memorial will be held on August 8, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos.
To send condolences, please reach out to his daughter Yuliya. Flowers can be arranged through Rivera Funeral Home. The family is also accepting donations to help during this difficult time: https://www.gofundme.com/f/in-memory-of-andrei-support-for-his-family)
