Amber Lynn Maestas, a remarkable woman whose radiant spirit touched the lives of all who knew her, passed away on March 22, 2026. Born in 1994, in Taos, New Mexico, Amber embodied a rare blend of joy, generosity, and heartfelt warmth throughout her life’s journey.
Amber’s early years were filled with vibrant memories that shaped the person she became. From performing in high school plays to traveling across the state alongside her mother, these experiences wove a tapestry of cherished moments. She was a competitive spirit, embracing the chessboard's quiet battles and the enthusiastic cheerleader's vibrant energy. Soft afternoons fishing with her father remain fond memories reflecting her love for family and the simple pleasures of life.
Her academic path was marked by excellence and dedication. Graduating a year early from high school as valedictorian was a proud achievement, underscoring her intellect and determination. Pursuing studies in Early Childhood Education at Eastern New Mexico University, Amber’s commitment to nurturing young minds reflected her deep compassion and unselfish nature.
Amber had a heart as beautiful as she was, always giving the most she could to everyone around her. She was known for her constant happiness, her gift of unconditional kindness, and a spirit that danced with joy. She loved to immerse herself in books—whether the timeless wisdom of the Bible, the depth of classic literature, or the captivating allure of modern fiction. Her passions extended beyond reading; she was a devoted fan of the LA Rams, found great satisfaction in knitting and crocheting, adored animals, and delighted in watching hummingbirds with a childlike wonder. The color purple, with its rich and gentle hues, mirrored the gentle strength and magic that she carried within. Fairies, those whimsical creatures of legend and light, held a special place in her heart, embodying the enchanting spirit Amber so effortlessly radiated.
Amber’s circle of family and friends was vast and deeply loved. She was cherished by her parents, Jaylyn and Gabriel, who nurtured her boundless heart; her brother, Gabriel Darek; and her cousin Jose Luis, whom she considered a brother. Her bond with her beloved dog Chelsea brought joy and comfort in countless moments. She was also surrounded by the love of grandparents Emma and Ike Rodarte, aunts Karen Rodarte, Ruby (Marvin) Love, and Louisa Maestas; cousins Giovanni Rodarte, Dominique (Zach) Archuleta, and Angelique (Marcus); and uncles Patrick Rodarte, Gilbert (Rose) Maestas, and Edwin Maestas. Each played a vital role in Amber’s life, sharing in the laughter and support that defined her relationships. Amber was preceded in death by her grandmother, Adelicia Maestas, whose memory lived on in Amber’s heart.
Throughout her career working in corrections at the Springer Women's Facility, Amber brought her indomitable spirit and unselfish nature to those around her, striving to make a positive difference even in the most challenging environments.
Amber Lynn Maestas leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and boundless generosity. Her beautiful heart, ever joyful smile, and unwavering spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the memories she created, the kindness she spread, and the love she gave will forever illuminate the lives she touched. In Amber’s memory, may we hold close the lessons of compassion, courage, and the magic that her unique soul gifted us all.
