Amalia Duran, 104 passed away on December 16, 2016. She was born in Arroyo Seco to Augustine Duran and Brigida Garcia, who preceeded her in death. She is also preceeded in death by her sons, Esubio and Manuel Fresquez, first husband, Estanislado Fresquez, second husband, Juan Pedro Sanchez, son-in-laws, Benjamin Martinez and Leroy Varos, and brother Manuel Garcia. She is survived by her children Medalia Martinez, Pilar Varos, Sostena Fresquez, Delorence Arias (Vicente), Cirilo Duran (Annette), sisters Feloniz Morgas, Odelia Rivera and Manuelita (Mela) Mascarenas, 24 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, 21 great great-grandchildren and 2 more bundles of joy on the way along with other relatives and friends.
She was a masseuse who knew how every muscle, bone, and nerve affected the body and was able to treat her patients and send them off with 3 aspirins. She also helped Maria Sofia Ortega the mid-wife, deliver babies. Amalia delivered her own grandson Juan Martinez. She was a devoted Catholic and belonged to the Holy Trinity Parish in Arroyo Seco. She spent many years as the Morada Cuiadora for the Veronicas.
Rosary will be be recited on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 7 PM at Holy Trinity Parish in Arroyo Seco. Funeral mass will held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 10 AM at Holy Trinity Parish with interment to follow at the Arroyo Seco Cemetery.
