Alfonso Larragoite

d. March 13, 2015

Alfonso Larragoite has joined his beloved wife Eva (Lopez), and daughter Jeanette Larragoite. Alfonso was the first son born to Armando and Pablita (Quintana) Larragoite in a family blessed with three daughters, Mary, Amelia, and Fannie, and 6 more sons, Armando, Mariano, Bennie, Phillip, Claude and Gilbert. Claude (Valentine) and Gilbert (Marje) survive their eldest brother. Alfonso grew up on the family property on Agua Fria Street, returning to his childhood home in his retirement years. He lived there with his wife of 76 years, Eva, until her passing in 2013, and then remaining in his lifelong home until he was ready to join her. Alfonso and Eva raised three children, Alfonso (Ponchie) Jr., Jeanette, and Patricio. During the years of raising his family, he worked as Santa Fe Assistant City Clerk/Treasurer, served in the Air Force Corps during WWII, and established a long career in sales with Santa Fe Motor Company, as the owner/manager of General Tire, and finally in real estate. Alfonso also served his community, having been elected as Santa Fe City Alderman/Councilor from 1962 through 1969. After retiring, Alfonso spent many years walking the acequias at his "rancho" in Chamisal, and feeding the ducks and geese on Agua Fria Street. He also enjoyed traveling to Cuernavaca, Mexico to visit friends and climb the pyramids. Like many of the Larragoite clan, Alfonso was well-known for his storytelling. Alfonso was a grandfather to Teresa, Carlos and Stephen, and great-grandfather to Diana, Eva, Cruz and Clio. He will be lovingly remembered by them, as well by many nieces and nephews, his daughters-in-law Loretta and Charlotte, his brother-in-law Mac Lopez, and his sisters-in-law Marie Larragoite and Helen Lopez Perry. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, April 10, 2015 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Santuario in Santa Fe, NM. Interment with full military honors will be conducted at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 2:15 pm
