Alex Carrillo entered his eternal home into the arms of his savior, Jesus Christ, on September 24, 2026, and to celebrate his son’s birthday. Born in Carrizo Springs, Texas, on February 17, 1954, to Uvaldo and Tiodora Carrillo, Alex grew up in Hobbs, New Mexico. Alex loved his family, football, hunting, and gardening.

Family was Alex’s first love and took immense pride in providing for his family. He met his wife Ida at Highlands University and in 1975 they were married. They have two children, Jason and Samantha, and two grandchildren, Matthew and Ashley. He enjoyed spending time with his family celebrating holidays and their special events, camping, and teaching his son how to hunt. He was heartbroken in 2017 when his son passed. He loved his parents, his four brothers and his sister, and his extended family including his in-laws.

Alex played football, basketball, and track in middle school and high school. His football career extended from middle school through college. He was proud to be the 1973 New Mexico All State Football Guard. After high school, Alex went on to play for MMI and then Highlands University. When he retired from a career at LANL, he coached his grandson in the Pojoaque Valley Youth Basketball League and coached eight years of middle school football.

Alex loved to hunt elk and deer in the northern New Mexico mountains with his son, daughter, grandson, nephews, and hunting buddies. He spent spring, summer and fall gardening.

Alex was preceded in death by his son Jason Carrillo, brother George Carrillo, sister Mary Silva, parents Uvaldo and Tiodora Carrillo, “second mother” Concha, father and mother-in-law Chester and Margaret Smith.

Alex is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ida Carrillo; his daughter, Samantha Carrillo; his grandson, Matthew Carrillo; his granddaughter, Ashley Carrillo; his brothers, Lupe Carrillo, Jose Carrillo (Patricia), and Roberto Carrillo; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and other extended family members.

Family and Friends are invited to honor Alex’s life at Rivera Family Funeral Home of Espanola with a Celebration of Life on Tuesday October 6th, 2026, beginning at 6:30pm. Church Services will be held the following day Wednesday October 7th, 2026, at 10:00am at Crossroads Bible Church in Los Alamos. Alex will then be laid to rest at Guaje Pines Cemetery.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Matthew Carrillo, Conner Smith, Ray Smith, Chuck Williams, Samantha Carrillo, and Ashley Carrillo.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Lupe Carrillo, Jose Carrillo, and Roberto Carrillo.

The family extends special thanks to Nurse Yvonne Chavez and Patient Coordinator Wray Roccaforte of Giving Home Healthcare, and to the professionals of Ambercare Hospice for their gentle care of Alex and for the support they gave to his family. The family would also like to thank Alex’s good friend Chuck Williams for his love and support, and Crossroads Bible Church for their services and spiritual guidance.
